Services: Creative Direction, Research + Consulting, Writing, Graphic Design
(Total of 6 runs, spanning from 2019-2024).
An installation series rooted in challenging our inherent notions between “crime” and punishment.
JAILBEDDROP has been showcased at the California African American Museum, the Geffen Contemporary at MOCA, the Long Beach Museum of Art, Martin Luther King Day Parade at Leimert Park, and A Noise Within Theatre. It was featured as a solo installation at South LA Contemporary, and has been a subject of research in UCLA’s Law Review Journal, and USC’s Annenberg Ph.D thesis program for media studies.
Collaborators include Kenneth Webb, Raul Rubio, Blue Roof Studios, Crenshaw Dairy Mart, For Freedoms, BLM LA, Yes on Measure R campaign, Francisco Homes, Converse All-Stars, among others.
The JBD team gathers for rehersals of the spoken word aspect of the project’s performance piece during their residency with Blue Roof Studios.
JAILBEDDROP is a recreation of childhood safe spaces made from acts of familial connection through prison walls. A collection of love letters, paintings, movement pieces, and workshops on praxis to support local abolitionist policies, and facilitate the exploration of interpersonal accountability.
Muoi is responsible for the conceptualization and production of the installation, as well as the current and historical policy research featured in the project. Assisted with writing parole letters and the coordination of resources across artists in Lancaster State Prison and their families. Created alongside artist Mims as an extension of the art series curated by Patrice Cullors and Cecilia Sweet-Coll through Justice LA.
